Mr. Speaker, our world-renowned natural heritage is being imperilled by a government that is destroying 50 years of safeguards through Bill C-38 and Economic Action Plan 2012 – namely, severely cutting the budget to Environment Canada, gutting environmental legislation, cancelling the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy, silencing dissent from environmental non-governmental organizations, and continuing to muzzle government scientists – and in so doing, impacting our economy today and in the future.
Anyone who disagrees with the Prime Minister is told to “sit down and shut up”. All Canadians should be asking themselves who’s next? Who will be under attack by this government for voicing their opposition? Silence is not an option. It is time to stand up and speak up for democracy, the environment, and Canada.
